Yoga is a discipline that requires the relaxation of the mental, physical and spiritual centers of yourself. Yoga assists with keeping those centers strong through different postures, posing and breathing. Having the right environment is imperative to achieving the relaxation of the mental, physical and spiritual centers.
Using aromatherapy while performing yoga is a way to attain an environment that will help achieve relaxation of your mental, physical and spiritual centers. Some benefits of using aromatherapy while performing yoga are increased stamina, relief in muscle tension, deeper focus and mental clarity, and a strengthened “mind to body” connection. The benefits you seek depends on which poses you perform in your yoga routines, as well as which essential oils you use while performing your yoga routines.
The aromatherapy essential oils can be applied to skin (read directions first) if they are used as skin oils or can be used in an essential oil diffuser. Depending on which state of being you are trying to achieve, there are certain oils and poses you can use to help with vitality, tranquility and increased immunity.
Vitality: Yoga poses that help to produce a energized state are the triangle pose and wide leg forward bend pose. Aromas to help produce the flow of vitality while performing these poses are orange peel, peppermint, lemon and cinnamon. These essential oils provide an aroma of “citrus” and “spice,” which help to stimulate blow flow throughout the body.
Tranquility: Yoga poses that will give you a boost in tranquility are basic twist pose, boat pose and extended prayer pose. Lavender, eucalyptus, ylang ylang, and clove are good to provide a relaxed state of being. These essential oils have a floral fragrance, which help to decrease stress levels and provide you with relaxation while performing your yoga routine.
Increase in Immunity: Yoga poses that promote an increase in immunity are kneeling twist and child’s pose. The aromas you can use while performing these yoga poses are lemon, tea tree, peppermint, and bergamot. Lemon, tea tree, peppermint, and bergamot are essential oils that stimulate the senses, signaling the body to increase energy and blood flow throughout the cardiovascular and nervous system.
By using aromatherapy while performing yoga, your mind will remain in a more relaxed state and be able to perform your yoga routine with more mental, physical and spiritual focus.
